Pleas Henderson Akers

Please Henderson Akers, 81, of Piggott, died at the VA Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff, MO, on Monday, April 5, 2004.

He was born in Kennett, MO, on July 6, 1922, so of Pleas A. and Florence Henderson Akers.

He married Nelldean Smith on November 1, 1941.

He was a veteran of WWII where he served in the Old Hickory Division.  He was wounded in action and taken as a prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge.

As a young man he worked in a CCC Camp in IA.  He was also a painter, drywall contractor and built many houses in the Kennett area.  In his later years he built and refinished furniture and was famous for his many homemade crafts.

Mr. Akers was a life-time member of the Disabled American Veterans, of which he was a past commander, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Kennett.

He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Piggott.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; three sisters; and one son, Robert.

He is survived by his wife; three sons and four daughters-in-law, Johnny Akers and wife, Karen, of San Bernadino, CA, David Akers and wife, Becky, of Phoenix, AZ and Michael Akers and wife, Jacy, of Piggott, and daughter-in-law, nancy Akers of Memphis, TN; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn Low and husband, Myron, of Piggott, and Brenda Dicus and husband, James, of Kennett; one brother, Don L. Akers of Saginaw, MI; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Kennett, MO.

 Robert Dale Akers

Robert Dale Akers, 59, of Lexington, TN, died May 11, 2003 in Lexington.

He was born August 28, 1943, in St. Louis, MO to Nelldean Akers and P.H. Akers.

Mr. Akers was an Engineering Manager for Mark IV Automotive.

He is survived by his parents, Nelldean and P.H. Akers of St. Francis, AR; his wife, Nancy Elaine Akers of Lexington; one son, Scott Everett Akers and wife, Shelly, of Jonesboro, AR; two daughters, Stephanie Elaine Lee and husband, Bill, of Memphis and Amy Elizabeth Andrews and husband, David, of Barrie, Ontario, Canada; one niece raised in the home, Michele Lynn Jones and husband, Sid, of Kennett; three brothers, Johnny Akers and wife, Karen, of San Bernardino, CA, David Akers and wife, Becky of Phoenix, AZ, and Michael Akers and wife, Jacy, of Piggott; two sisters, Marilyn Low and husband, Myron of Piggott and Brenda Dicus and husband, James, of Kennett; three grandchildren, Brooke Elizabeth Akers of Jonesboro, AR, Caitlin Elain Akers of Jonesboro and Savannah Elizabeth Lee of Memphis, TN; his mother-in-law, Ora B. Terry of Kennett; one brother-in-law, Tommy Terry of Kennett; and a friend that was like a brother, Bill Biggs and wife, Linda, of Kennett.

Burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Kennett, MO.

Scot E. Akers

Scott E. Akers, 37, of Jonesboro, AR, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at his residence.

Born in Kennett, MO, the son of Robert D. and Nancy Terry Akers, he was a police officer with the Jonesboro Police Department.  He had received a degree as a medical laboratory technologist.  He attended Southwest Church of Christ in Jonesboro.

In 1988 he married Shelly Henry of Kennett.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert D. Akers; paternal grandfather, P.H. Akers; and maternal grandfather, Everett Terry.

Survivors include his wife and two daughters, Brooke and Caitlin of the home; mother, Nancy Akers of Memphis, TN; paternal grandmother, Nelldean Akers of Piggott; maternal grandmother, Ora B. Terry of Kennett; two sisters, Stephanie Lee of Memphis, and Amy Andrews of Barrie, Ontario, Canada; four uncles, Tommy Terry of Kennett, Johnny Akers of San Bernadino, CA, David Akers of Phoenix, AZ and Michael Akers of Piggott; and two aunts, Marilyn Low of Piggott and Brenda Dicus of Kennett.

Burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Kennett, MO.
