Kermit Ellis Bailey

Kermit Ellis Bailey, 90, of Greenway, AR,  died Friday, July 28, 2000, at the Paragould Nursing Center.
 
He was born March 26,1910, in Lexington, TN, the son of the late Theodore M. Bailey and. Etta Alexander.
 
He married Edna Mae Garrett in 1928 in Blytheville, AR. He was a farmer.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Gerald Bailey Sr.; two brothers, Clark and Cradly; and three sisters, Ruby, Celeste and Lelah.
He is survived by one son, Kenneth and Jean Bailey of St. Helen, MI; one daughter, Reba F. Moore of Streamwood, IL; six grandchildren; 15 great-grand­children; and two great-great-grandchildren.
 
Burial at Mitchell Cemetery near Greenway, AR.

Arthur Louis Baggett

Arthur Louis Baggett Jr., 27, of Campbell, MO, died Tuesday, March 30,2004.
 
He was born Jan. 20,1977, in Poplar Bluff, the son of Arthur Louis Baggett Sr. and Brenda Lee Paul Baggett of Campbell.
 
He married Lisa Christine Innes on October 1, 2002, in Piggott.
 
He was of the Baptist faith.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife and his grandparents, Raymond and Ethel Paul and Ranzy and Stella Baggett.
 
He is survived by his children Brittney Renee Baggett and Arthur Louis Baggett III; his step-daughter, Nicole Lowry; his parents; one brother; two sisters; three half-brothers; and four half- sisters.
 
Burial in Bethany Cemetery in Campbell.

Mattie "Doris" V. Turner Ball

Mattie (Doris) V. Ball, 81, of Holiday, Fla., died July 17,2003, in Florida.
 
She was born July 4, 1922, in Piggott. The daughter of the late William L. and Hazel Lee Farmer  Turner.
 
She was united in marriage to W.L. Ball on October 29, 1937. To this union four children were born. He preceded her in death in 1990.
 
She was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
 
She is survived by four chil­dren, Winifred Ball of Columbiaville, MI, Bonnie S. Gillis of Westerville, OH,  Jerry W.L. Ball of Lincoln Park, MI, and David L. Ball of Tarpon Springs, FL; seven grandchil­dren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mattie Lee Hill of Orange Park, FL; and other relatives and friends.
 
Burial in the Piggott Cemetery, Piggott, AR.

Gary Ballard

Gary Ballard, 47 of Pollard, Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at his home.
 
He was born June 20, 1958, the son of the late Freeman and Deloris Campbell Ballard. He was raised by Ralph and Marie Trout.
 
He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Leroy.
 
He is survived by five broth­ers, Joe Ballard of Piggott, Terry Ballard of Pocahontas, AR,  Freddy Ballard of Pocahontas, Don Trout of Paragould and Dave Trout of  Pollard; four sisters, Carol Mar­tin of Pollard, Donna Bates of Trumann, Janice Chandler of Pol­lard and Laverne Nicholas of Brighton, MI; and a nephew, Matthew Ballard of Piggott; and many other relatives and friends.
 
Burial in the Cummins Chapel Cemetery, near Pollard, AR.

Ruth Hunter Ballard

Ruth Hunter Ballard passed away on March 27,2005, at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, FL, after a brief illness.
She was born in Marianna, AR, the daughter of Maude and Frank Hunter Sr. in 1916. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; two sisters; and her husband of 59 years, Willard H. Ballard.
 
She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Stewart of Fort Myers and her husband, Charles Stewart; granddaughter, Tracy Stewart McKendry and her hus­band, Rev. Russell McKendry of Arvada, CO; grandson, Darren Stewart and his wife, Asli, of An­napolis, MD.; great-grandchil­dren, Emily McKendry Benton, Zachary McKendry, Jonathan McKendry, Elizabeth McKendry, Hailey Stewart and Ryan Stewart: and one great-great-grandchild, Corey Benton. She is also sur­vived by a brother-in-law Jack Ballard and wife, Peggy, of Piggott; and a brother-in-law, Ned Hardin Sr. of Grady, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.
 
Mrs. Ballard graduated from high school in Marianna, AR, and attended State Teachers College in Conway. Her last employment before retiring and moving to Fort Myers in 1973 was Secretary to the Assistant Postmaster General of the United States in Washing­ton, D.C. She took a two year leave of absence from govern­ment employment in the late 60s to go with her husband to Dacca, Bangladesh, where he was em­ployed by the State Department.
She was a faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church for many years. She was also a long time member of the Whiskey Creek Country Club.
 
Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in the chapel. Burial  in Piggott Cemetery, Piggott, AR.

Viola Wears Bankston 

Viola Bankston, 82, of Piggott died Wednesday, March 13,2002, at Piggott Community Hospital.
 
She was born Aug. 21,1919, in Buffalo, WV, the daughter of the late Arch and Katy Stewart Wears.
 
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Owen Wears, and three sisters, Inez Wears, Edith Wears and Florence Workman.
 
She was of the Baptist faith.
 
She is survived by two sons, Bill Bankston and wife, Sue, of Baytown, TX, and Paul Bankston and wife, Francis, of San Antonio, TX; one daugh­ter, Pat Causey and husband, Jerry, of Piggott; seven grandchil­dren, Noel Schmidt, Ann Merrill,
Shawn Bankston, Paul Bankston Jr., Russell Bankston, John Bankston and Paula Willie; 16 great-grandchildren; three sis­ters, Dorothy Blair of Ashland, KY, Grace Van Noy of Little Rock, AR and Mary Walsh of Chicago, IL; and many other relatives and friends.
 
Burial was in New Hope Cem­etery in Pollard, AR.

Betty Jo Shephard Barker

Betty Jo Barker, 72, of Kennett, MO,  died Sunday, March 10,2002, in Kennett.
 
She was born March 4,1930, in Rector, AR,  the daughter of the late Dan and Cora Elkins Shephard.
 
She married Denver Lee Barker on January 15, 1949. He preceded her in death on September 1, 1964.
 
She was also preceded in death by one son, Rickey Barker, three brothers and three sisters.
 
She is survived by one daugh­ter, Patricia Ann Griffin and hus­band, Rick, of St. Louis, MO; two sons, Danny Lee Barker and wife, Lesa, of Kennett and Mickey Gale Barker and wife, Barbara, of Piggott; step-daughter, Vadalia Hampton of West Memphis, AR; six grandchildren, Amy Berra and husband, Mark, Brandon Davis, Jennifer Barker, Leah Barker, Seth Hinkle and Chase Hinkle; two step-grandchildren; two broth­ers, Leroy Shephard of Tyler, TX: and Billy Shephard of Searcy, AR; two sisters, Mary Herren of Piggott and Shirley Dwyer of St. Louis; and other relatives and friends.
 
Burial was in Mitchell Cemetery near Greenway, AR.

Clifford "Pat" Hoyt Barnhart

Clifford "Pat" Hoyt Barnhart, 91, of Marmaduke, AR,  died Sunday April 4, 2004, at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould, AR.
 
He was born August 26, 1912, in Greene County, to the late Lilburn Barnhart and Lena (Smith) Barnhart.
 
He was retired from the Greene County Road Department after 31 years of service, was a newspa­per deliverer in Marmaduke for the Paragould Daily Press and a Marmaduke city employee. He was a lifelong member of the com­munity and a member of Marmaduke General Baptist Church.
 
He was married March 11, 1938, to Nellie Mae Frances Golden.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lilburn and Lena Barnhart; his wife, Nellie Mae Barnhart; two sons, James Barnhart and Jerry Barnhart; one son-in-law, Ted Mitchell; one great-grandson, Andrew Mitchell; two brothers, Carmen "Cotton Boll" Barnhart and Dolf Barnhart.
 
He is survived by one son, Danny Barnhart of Marmaduke; one daughter, Frances Mitchell of Marmaduke; one daughter-in-law, Laveda Barnhart; one brother, Donald Barnhart of AZ; six grandchildren, Scott Mitchell, Tammy Johns, Jerome Mitchell, Lisa Fletcher, Dale Mitchell, all of Paragould, and Jamie Bennett of Marmaduke; 13 great-grandchil­dren; and one great-great-grand­child; one sister, Mary Ann Stokes of Holy Pond, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Burial  in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery in Marmaduke, AR.

Floyce "Bunkum Harris" Bateman

Floyce "Bunkum Harris" Bateman, 84, of Piggott, died Tuesday, August 8, 2000, at Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born February 28, 1916, in Piggott, the son of  Martha E. Haywood Harris.

He was a lifelong resident of the community and was a handyman.  He attended the First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Columbus "Lum" Harris, and one sister, Mary Harris Crossno Lowery.

He is survived by two nieces and three nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Burial in Cummins Chapel Cemetery, Pollard, AR.

H. Blair Bartleson

Prominent national business executive H. Blair Bartleson, 90, of Piggott died Wednesday, January 3,2001, at his home.
 
He had been vice president of Swift & Co. when Swift was the largest meat packing facility and distributor in the world.
 
Mr. Bartleson was a member of the New Covenant Fellowship in Poplar Bluff, MO. He was also past member of the Toastmasters and Rotary clubs, served on the board of DePaul University in Chicago and attended Northwestern University's management school.
Hewas born April 11 , 1910, in Ozark AR; the son of the late Hugh Blair and Stella Billingsley Bartleson.
 
He began his career with Swift & Co. in 1928 in Ft. Smith, AR,  was transferred to Little Rock and then served in various capacities throughout the country, includ­ing Monroe, LA, Amarillo and Ft. Worth, TX, and Boston, MA, before his ultimate assignment as vice president in Chicago.
 
Mr. Bartleson retired in 1970 and moved to Piggott in 1978.
 
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Halcyon Myers Bartleson; one son, Steven Shane Bartleson and wife, Virginia Robinson Bartleson, of Rochester, MN; daughter-in-law, Nancy Bartleson, wife of Michael Myers Bartleson, of South Chelmsford, MA; seven grandchildren, Jen­nifer, Brooke, Michael Tate, Heather, Michelle, William Shane and Virginia Blair; and one sister, Mary McIlroy of Little Rock.
 
He was preceded in death by two sons, Hodson Blair Bartleson and Michael Myers Bartleson; one brother; and two sisters.
 
Burial  in Piggott Cemetery, Piggott, AR.
