Arwilla Lacy Dodd

Arwilla Dodd of Dexter, for­merly of Malden, died Monday, February 3, 2003, at Cypress Point Healthcare in Dexter at the age of 91.
 
She was born August 12, 1911, the daughter of James Randle Lacy and Lula Bell McElyea Lacy.
 
She was united in marriage to James Orville Dodd on December 8, 1929, in St. Louis. To this union one son was born.
 
Mrs. Dodd was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Malden. She was a homemaker and a clerk for Luttrell's IGA formerly located in Malden.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Orville Dodd on October 31, 1954; one son, James Lacy Dodd; and one sister.
 
She is survived by one sister, Eleanor Underwood of Piggott; one grandson, James Michael Dodd of Columbia, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
 
Burial in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, MO.

Amy Katherine Pace Dollins

Amy Katherine Pace Dollins, 31, of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Piggott, died Thursday, August 21, 2003, in Las Vegas.
 
She was born October 9, 1971, in Piggott, the daughter of Steve Pace and Bobbi Hughes Johnson.
 
She was united in marriage to Rick Dollins on October 19, 1991.
 
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Marlin Stewart.
 
She is survived by her husband, Rick Dollins of Pocahontas; her father, Steve Pace of Fayetteville; her mother, Bobbi Johnson of Las Vegas; two step­-daughters, Tina and Brittney Dollins of Pocahontas; half-sis­ter, Sophia Pace of Fayetteville; paternal grandmother, Wanda Stewart of poplar Bluff; maternal grandparents, Willard and Barbara Hughes of Piggott; several aunts and uncles; and other rela­tives and friends.

Norma E. Smith Dollins

Norma E. Dollins, 87, of Paragould died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Piggott Community Hos­pital.
 
She was born March 3, 1916, in Hart, AR.
 
Mrs. Dollins was a co-owner of Dollins Furniture Store and Dollins Gifts for over 44 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Mary Jenkins Circle at FUMC; a B.E.E.S. outstanding volunteer; a Silver Haired Caucus Delegate in 1988; Ms. Senior Northeast Arkansas in 1991; a second runner-up in Senior Ms. Arkansas in 1987; and Ms. Senior East Arkansas in 1987.
 
She participated in State Indoor Sr. Olympics for over two de­cades winning many dancing medals and ribbons in polka, jit­terbug, country western, two-­step, and waltz. Mrs. Dollins also won medals and ribbons in shot-put, spin casting, stationary cycling, football throw, balloon bust relay, nail pounding, Easter bonnet, and the 400-meter walk.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chalma May Dollins; her parents, D.L. and Tommy Reeves Smith; and two sons, Danny and Jimmy Dollins.
 
She is survived by one daugh­ter and son-in-law, Sandra Jo and Charles Hollis of Greenway; one daughter-in-law, Linda Dollins of Paragould; and six grandchildren, Matt Hollis and wife, Laura, David Hollis, Luke Hollis and wife, Tracy, Jeannie Boling and hus­band, Chris, Laura Dollins and John Stevens, and Cindy Rhoades and husband, Todd.

Clyde Donahue

Clyde Donahue, 95, of Piggott died Thursday, November 3, 2005, at the Murphy Health and Rehabili­tation Center in Piggott.
 
He was a retired farmer.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel (Cowgill) Donahue; his parents, Charlie Donahue and Florence (Lack) Donahue; and one son, Lee Roy Donahue.
 
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Brown; five grandchil­dren; and many other relatives and friends.

Faye Hungerford Dunlap Clausen Donner

Faye Dunlap Donner, 83, of Piggott, formerly of Clarkton, MO, died Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at Piggott Community Hospital.

 

She was born August 25, 1917, in Clinton, IL, the daughter of the late Howard and Eva Brinkley Hungerford.

 

She was first married to Woodrow Dunlap, who preceded her in death on April 21, 1971.

 

She later married Wayne Clausen. He also preceded her in death.

 

She married Henry Donner on Jan. 16, 1985, in Piggott. He sur­vives.

 

She was preceded in death by one brother, Ed Hungerford.

 

She was a retired RSVP worker. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, served on the Council for the Aging, helped establish the Nutrition Center in Campbell and was listed in the Who's Who of Missouri.

 

She is also survived by one brother, Howard Hungerford of Redding, CA; one step-daugh­ter, Una Graddy of Conway, AR; one step-son, Terry Donner of Lake Walls, FL; four nieces and nephews, Peggy Rainwater of Cape Girardeau, MO, Sue Hickson of Campbell, Krystyn Arnold of Burnsville, MO, and Edward Arnold Jr., of Campbell; five step­-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

 

Burial was in Stanfield Cemetery near Clarkton.

Laura Runyon Donner

Laura Donner, 82, of Piggott died Sunday, October 22, 2000, at Piggott Community Hospital.
 
She was born November 10, 1917,in Kennett, MO, the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Salley May Clines Runyon.
 
She married Raymond Donner on November 30, 1935. To this union seven children were born.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, in 1998; one daughter, Peggy Sue Donner; one son, Mackey Jo­seph Donner; one grandson, Michael Yancy; and four brothers, Walter Griffin, Jay Runyon, Ray Runyon and Charles E. Runyon.
 
She is survived by two sons, Ray Dean Donner of Jackson, MO, and David Donner of Piggott; three daughters, Mona Faye Yancy of Flower Mound, TX and Vicki Benjamin and Angelia Donner of Piggott; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grand­children; one great-great-grand­son; one brother, Ernest Runyon of Buena Park, CA; and other relatives and friends.

Vera Reynolds Dorris

Vera Dorris, 84, of Rector died Thursday, October 25, 2001, in Rector.

 

She was born March 9, 1917, in Marmaduke, the daughter of Charles and Arpie Reynolds.

 

She was of the Baptist belief.

 

She was also preceded in death by one brother, William Reynolds, and two sisters, Gladys Yancey and Eithel Nelson.

 

She is survived by one son, Gaylon Dorris, of Rector; two grandchildren, Dena Green and husband, Amos, of Malden, MO, and Tammy Johnson and hus­band, Dale, of Piggott; and six grandchildren, Daniel Johnson, Kevin Johnson and Kalan Johnson of Piggott, and Amanda Green, Derek Green and Jade Green of Malden.

Anna B. Tyler Dortch

 

Anna B. Tyler Dortch, 99, formerly of Rector, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at the Piggott Nursing Center.

 

She was born September 3, 1898, in Clay County, the daughter of the late Rev. Robert Tyler and Laura Gaulden Tyler.

 

She married Sydney Dortch in May 1979. She was a homemaker and a member of the Rector First Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include one stepdaughter, Nellie McCrady of Paragould; one stepdaughter-in-law, Mareda Dortch; two step-grandchildren; five step-­great-grandchildren; and one step­great-great-grandchild.

Frank J. Doty

Frank J. Doty, 67, of Piggott died Monday, June 20, 2005, at his residence.
 
He was born July 13, 1937, in Fagus, the son of the late William Herbert and Ruby Genevia Hosea Doty.
 
He was united in marriage to Arvella  Moore on September 17, 1977.
 
Mr. Doty was a member of the Fagus General Baptist Church in Fagus, MO.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Herbert Doty and Ruby Genevia Hosea Wright.
 
He is survived by his wife, Arvella Doty; two sons, William Bailey and wife, Pat, of Poplar Bluff and Todd Doty and wife, Sarita, of Bryon, GA; three daugh­ters, Kay Wilkerson and hus­band, Gary, of Poplar Bluff, Debbie Law and husband, Darrell, of Poplar Bluff and Glenda Burkett and husband, James Haarmeyer, of Poplar Bluff; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grand­children; one brother, Ronnie Wright of Fagus; two sisters, Wanda Morris of Knobel, AR, and Jean Morris of Rector; one brother-in-law, Arnold Moore and wife, Dorothy, of Poplar Bluff; and many other relatives and friends.
 
Burial will follow in the Cummins Chapel Cemetery at Pol­lard.

Jean Crouch Doty-Owen

A former city clerk-treasurer and long-time employee of the Piggott School District, Jean Doty-Owen, died on Tuesday, January 3, at the age of 68 at her home in Piggott.
 
Doty-Owen was elected city clerk-treasurer in a run-off elec­tion in November of 1986. She served the city in that capacity until she lost the election in 1998.
 
However, most residents may first remember her as the secre­tary at Piggott Elementary School when the school was located on the hill on Cherry Street. Doty-­Owen worked for the school dis­trict for 20 years.
 
In an interview with the Times last year, Doty-Owen stressed-the importance of a good education.
 
"I was a high school dropout for 12 years. I returned to Piggott High School for three solid years to attend classes. I graduated in 1967, was supposed to have graduated in 1955. Both classes invite me to their reunions," she said.
 
She continued her education to complete 30 hours of college credit and enjoyed writing poetry. Some of her poems were pub­lished in Voices International.
 
Doty-Owen was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
 
More recently, she worked at Neeley's Rentals in Piggott.
 
Doty-Owen had the distinction of being the first Tri-County Ms. Senior Citizen, winning the crown on November 13, 2004, in Pocahontas.
 
Doty-Owen was very active in the community. She was one of the first women to join the Piggott Lions Club, joining in March of 1988. She was an active member of the Piggott V.F.W. La­dies Auxiliary, the Piggott Com­munity Hospital Auxiliary (a.k.a. "The Pink Ladies), AARP and the Red Hat Society.
 
Doty-Owen was also an active volunteer over the years at the local B.R.A.D. Senior Citizens Center. In May of 2005, she was one of seven seniors receiving the President's Volunteer Service Award at the center. In order to receive the award, the winner had to have donated at least 4,000 hours of volunteer time in the past 12 months.
 
She was born February 13, 1937, in Piggott, the daughter of the late Louie and Thelma McKenzie Crouch.
 
She was united in marriage to Julos Owen on June 28, 1996.
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julos in 2000; one son, Jamie Landers; and one grand­daughter, Delaynie Doty.
 
She is survived by one daugh­ter, Sharon Holland of Reyno; one son, Todd Doty and wife, Sarita, of Bryon, GA; four grandchildren, Terence Landers and wife, Nikki, of Reyno, Keegan Doty, Morgan Doty and Talor Doty; two great­-grandchildren, Sydney and Nathaniel Landers; four step­-daughters, Sue Tate of Piggott, Jeanie Kentner of Campbell, Judith Pigg of Cedar Lake, IN, and Cathy Dixon of Tyrone, PA; several step-grandchildren; one sister, Sonya Holcomb and hus­band, Bud, of Piggott; and many other relatives and friends.
 
Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery in Piggott.

Reba Irene Chapman Dowdy

 Reba Irene Dowdy, 85, of Piggott died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at St. John Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis.

She was born May 6, 1915, in Rector, the daughter of the late Pressley and Alice Church Chapman.

 

She married Varland Dowdy on September 17, 1932. To this union three daughters were born.

 

She was born into Christ by baptism at the Church of Christ in Greenway 53 years ago and had worshiped there and in Piggott since that time.

 

God was always first in her life, her husband and her girls always foremost in her heart. Her loves were God and family.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Varland, in 1991; three brothers, Robert Chapman, Huey Chapman and Eddie Chapman; and one sister, Eva Lack.

 

She is survived by three daugh­ters, Willodean Bradshaw of Indianola, MS, Virginia Mannino of St. Louis and Linda Kay Gloe of Troy, MO; 10 grand­children; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Neva Coomer of Piggott, Jean Chapman and Veda Mills of St. Louis and Betty Sullivan of Heber Springs, AR; one brother, Bill Chapman of Cabot, AR; and other relatives and friends.

Mimia Louise Huffman Downham

 Mimia Louise Huffman Downham, 78, of Piggott died Monday, December 2, 2002, in the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell.

 

She was born January 2, 1924, in Greenway, the daughter of the late Matthew and Erma Bell Huffman.

 

She was united in marriage to Joseph E. Downham on June 28, 1941.

 

She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Belinda Sue Robins, and two brothers, Harold Huffman and Marion Huffman.

 

She is survived by her husband, Joe Downham; one son, Bobby Joe Downham and wife, Carolyn, of Smithville; one daughter, Sharon Flanigan and husband, Larry, of Pollard; two brothers, Roy Huffman of Piggott and Howard Huffman of Campbell; three sisters, Dorothy McMillion of Frisbee, Ruby Huffman of Greenway, arid Erma Jean Eubanks of Kennett; two grand­children, Diane Pulliam and Karen Haywood; one great­-grandchild, Emily Haywood; and many other relatives and friends.

 Alfred Franklin Doyle

 

Alfred Franklin Doyle, 80, of Pop­lar Bluff, MO, died Sunday, February 21, 1999, at the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, TN.

Born March 6, 1918, near Gravel Hill, AR, he was the son of the late Samuel Amos and Alice Ann Lewey Doyle.

 

He was united in marriage to Mary Rosella Book on August 23, 1940. The couple had four children.

 

He was a lifelong farmer and raised purebred Angus cattle.

 

Survivors include his wife, Mary Rosella Doyle of Poplar Bluff, MO; two sons, Donald F. Doyle and Billy Ray Doyle, both of Poplar Bluff, MO; two daughters, Patsy Ann Suttles of New Bloomfield, MO, and Molly Sue Hyde of Poplar Bluff, MO; five grandchildren; six great-grandchil­dren; two sisters, Alma Anderson of Qulin, MO, and Thelma Suhy of San Diego, CA; and a host of other rela­tives and friends.
