Austin Tyler Higdon

Austin Tyler Higdon, the one-­year-old son of Tyler Jade and Chantel Webb Higdon of Jack­sonville, died Friday, March 28, 2003, in Little Rock.

 

He was born March 22, 2002, in Palmer, Alaska. He was of the Baptist faith.

 

Higdon was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Timothy Higdon.

 

He is survived by his parents, Tyler and Chantel Higdon of Jacksonville; his maternal grand­parents, Bobby, Jr. and Susie Webb of Piggott; his paternal grandmother, Becky Billips of Corning; his aunt, Millicent Webb of Piggott; an uncle and his wife, Shannon and Tammy Higdon of Piggott; his maternal great-grandparents, Mary and Julius Renfro, Eithel Webb and Bob Webb, Sr., all of Piggott; his maternal great-great-grand­mother, Juanita Rogers of IL; his paternal great-grandfa­thers, Max Rogers and Bruce Thrasher, both of Piggott; his cousins, Hunter Higdon and Shianne Higdon; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

 

Burial in the Piggott Cemetery.

 

Barbara Joann Crittendon Higgins

Barbara Joann Higgins, 68, of West Helena, AR, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock, AR.

She was born July 18, 1931, in Marmaduke, AR, the daughter of the late Elizie Harold and Pauline Bradshaw Crittendon.

She married John Emmett Higgins on February 15, 1959, in Malden, MO.  To this union three children were born.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Grace Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by one sister Sammye Bonner, and two brothers, Don and Jack Crittendon.

She is survived by her husband, John; two sons, Martin Harold Higgins and wife, Cindy, of DeSoto, MO, and John Emmett Higgins, Jr., and wife, Lori, of Kennett, MO; a daughter, Tanya Robinson and husband, Paul, of Bethalto, IL; a brother, Ronnie Crittendon of Kennett; a sister, Kay Sharon Houser of Cleveland, AR, and three grandchildren.

Burial in Piggott Cemetery, Piggott, AR.

John Emmett Higgins, Sr.

John Emmett Higgins, Sr., 69, of West Helena, AR, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Methodist North, in Memphis, TN.

He married Barbara Joann Crittendon on February 15, 1959, in Malden, MO.  She preceded him in death on June 22, 2000.

He married Kathleen Adams on September 21, 2001, in Hot Springs, AR.  She survives.

He was a salesman in the aviation vusiness and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.  He was a member of Grace Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, MO.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Martin Harold Higgins and wife, Cindy, of DeSoto, MO, and John Emmett Higgins, Jr., and wife, Lori, of Kennett, MO; a daughter, Tanya Robinson and husband, Paul, of Bethalto, IL; four stepsons, Ted (Janie) Johnston of Bats, AR, and Carl (Sheila) Johnston, Kenny (Kathy) Johnston and Terry (Cheryl) Johnston, all of Waldron, AR; two step-daughters, Debbie Johnston of Waldron, and Diana (Jerald) Hattabaugh of Mansfield, AR; three grand children; eight step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Burial in Piggott Cemetery, Piggott, AR.

Harry Thomas Highfill

Harry Thomas Highfill, 73, of Rector, AR, died Thursday, February 2, 2006, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Joneboro, AR.

He was born October 26, 1932 in Paragould, AR to the late Everett and Audie (Walker) Highfill and was married September 18, 1965 to Clara Ann Greenway.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Wright; two brothers, James and Danny Highfill, and one sister, Mary Sterling.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict, a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and had worked at Bucy Implement company and as a carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Ann Highfill, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Dixie Highfill of Rector; four daughters and sons-in-law, vicki and Sid Schlenker of Bismarck, Regina and Randy Cravens of Portageville, MO, Judy and Tommy Sisneros of Rector, and Felecia Bay Derring of Paragould; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Barbara and Arlos O'Dell of St. Charles, MO, Joyce and Jack Burns of Niles, MI, Sharon Grubbs of Piggott and Annetta Greenway of Piggott; 13 grandchildren, Joey, Theresa, Jessica, Christopher, Vincent, Vanessa, Bethany, Bradley, Adam, Kayla, Cody, Morgan and Huston; and two great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Isabella.

Burial in Linwood Cemetery, Paragould, AR.

Martine Hill

Martine Hill, 81, of Greenway, AR, died Saturday, November 11, 2000, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born July 23, 1919, in Rector, AR, the daughter of the late Roy and Hattie Hardin Hill.

She was a substitute teacher in the Greenway School District and was a member of the Greenway Church of Christ.

She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Grover Hardin and Genevieve Hill of Greenway; two sister and brothers-in-law, Elberta and Howard Forrest of McGehee, AR, and Dorothy and Ed Wells of Greenway; six nephews; five nieces; 16 great-nephews; and six great-nieces; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a baby sister, Mary Joyce.

Burial in Woodland Heights in Rector, AR.

Michael Shane Hill

Michael Shane Hill, 28, of Pollard, AR, died Monday, August 31, 1998, in the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

He was born August 29, 1970, in Piggott, the son of Steve and Deborah Ort Hill.

On June 30, 1989, he was united in marriage to Theresa Borders, and to this union one son was born.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Charles Shirley Ort and Herbert Hill.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa Hill of Pollard; one son, Tyler of Pollard; his father, Steve Hill of Piggott; his mother, Debbie Snider of Poplar Bluff, MO, his stepfather, Marvin Snider of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Rebecca Harwell of Poplar Bluff; one half-brother, James Hill of Piggott; one niece, Hailey Harwell of Poplar Bluff; his grandmothers, Zora Ort of Pollard and Maxine Book and husband, Lowell, of Piggott; his grandfather, L.C. Ort of McDougal; his great-grandmother, Beatrice Hutchison of Piggott; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Burial in New Hope Cemetery, Pollard, AR.

Lois Rose Stewart Hillis

Lois Rose Stewart Hillis, 67, of Campbell, MO, died Tuesday, November 7, 2000, at Twin Rivers Medical Center in Kennett, MO.

She was born January 2, 1933, in Piggott, the daughter of Marion and Mabel Brady Stewart.

She married Asa Hillis on June 17, 1950, in Piggott.

She was a housewife and a member of the St. Francis First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Asa; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Angela Hillis of St. Ann, MO; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Lee Cole of Hayti, MO; her mother Mabel Stewart of Campbell; two sisters, Bonnie Thompson of St. Francis, AR, and Yuvonne Mason of Indian Mound, TN; three grandchildren, Amy Cole, Matthew Cole, and Aaron Hillis; and many other relatives and friends.

Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Campbell, MO.

William Henry "Bob" Hillyer

William Henry "Bob" Hillyer, 71, of Piggott, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born May 13, 1930 in Pollard, AR, the son of the late John and Edith Sedrick Hillyer.

He married Marie Runyon on February 4, 1950.  To this union two children were born.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Mr. Hillyer was on the board of directors of the Clay County Electric Cooperative Association for 34 years.  He was a member of Trailers Chapel Church and served as Sunday School teacher and Superintendent.  He built many homes in the Piggott area.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; one son, Jim Hillyer of Jonesboro; one daughter, June Somers of Ozark, MO; four grandchildren, Amy, Joshua, Brittany, and Alyson; one sister, Juanita Gramlich of East St. Louis, IL; and many other relatives and friends.

Barbara Sue Parker Hines

Barbara Sue Parker Hines, 66, of Selmer, TN, died Monday, April 19, 2004, in Selmer.

She was a retired production worker for Brown Shoe Company and Owens-Corning. She was a member of the Fourth Street Church of Christ in Selmer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Clay and Ethel Ward Parker; two sisters, Lila Leigh Parker and Lois O'Connor; and three brothers, Earl Parker, Harold Parker, and Robert Parker.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Hines; two daughters, Cindy Sample of Tulsa, OK, and Mary Vales of Luray, TN; one son, Buster Rogers of Memphis, TN; one step-son, terry Hines of Poway, CA; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jerry Parker.

Burial in Lake Hill Memorial Gardens in Bethel Springs, TN.

Vonda Lee Davis Hinkle

Vonda Lee Hinkle, 77, of Piggott, died May 3, 2003, at Piggott Community Hospital.

She was born February 5, 1926, in Greenway, AR, to John and Lela (Bradford) Davis.  She was united in marriage to Bill Hinkle.

Mrs. Hinkle retired from the Brown Shoe Factory.  She was a member of the South Thornton Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lela Davis; her husband Bill Hinkle; three brothers; and three sisters.

She is survived by one son, Mike Hinkle of Piggott; two brothers, Charles Davis of Poplar Bluff, MO, and John Oliver Davis of Crossfield, TN; and many other relatives and friends.

Mary Margaret Gardner Hipperson

Mary Margaret Gardner Hipperson, 86, of Corning, AR, a native of Rector, AR, died Friday, March 12, 1999 at  Clay County Nursing Center in Corning.

Mrs. Hipperson was born December 1, 1912, in Rector, to the late Charlie Paul Gardner and Mildred (Dudley) Gardner.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Merritt; second husband, Elmer Massey; third husband, Horace Hipperson; and a brother, Glenn Robert Gardner.

She was a retired telephone operator and a housewife.  She was a member of the Corning General Baptist Church and the Easter Star and was active in the Corning Auxiliary.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Ann Ruff of Corning; two brothers, Marion Gardner of Redford, MI, and Wayne Gardner of Lincon Park, MI; a sister, Marie Jackson of Westland, MI; three grandchildren, Phillip Ruff of Redford, MI, Walter Ruff of Howell, MI and LeAnn Smith of Beaumont, TX, and eight great-grandchildren, Amy Rachel, James, Aaron, Angela, Stacy, Sharon and Michelle.

Pearl Miller Hitt

Pearl Miller Hitt, 94, of Piggott, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, in the Piggott Nursing Center.

She was born February 12, 1908, in Rector, the daughter of the late Charles and Delia Armstrong Miller.  She was united in marriage to Hood Hitt, Jr., in 1926.  To this union two sons, Charles and Jack, were born.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hood, on March 13, 1985; one son, Charles Hitt; one great-grandson, Nicholas; four brothers, Lambert, "Doc" Miller, Tom Miller, George Miller and Henry Miller; four sisters, Helen Booth, Ann Weston, Lillian Richardson and Effie Miller.

She is survived by one son, Jack Hitt and wife, Virginia, of Jackson, MI; one daughter-in-law, Lavena Hitt of Doniphan; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
